Masters Graduate Exhibition, February 2021.

The above objects have been selected from the Post Graduate Exhibition of The National Art School Sydney, February 2021. These objects demonstrate my process of making art from a state of play, creating without intended or foreseen outcomes. ‘Making’ is a correspondence between the mind and the world through the hand. The objects that have emerged from this playful state of ‘correspondent making’ were contextualized in relationship to four theoretical fields: the classical theory of art as a mimetic practice, semiotic representational theory, the institutional theory of art and finally, a Hallidayian social-semiotic framework. From material beginnings to the negotiations of meaning, these objects stimulate a discourse regarding the importance of a continuity of play or ‘open-endedness’.
